Název článku: ZIMBABWEAN SCULPTURE RAISES FUNDS IN 12TH CENTURY PRAGUE MONASTERY, FOR KENYAN KIDS

on October 29 the (MIRO) gallery gave tribute to a master of stone from Zimbabwe whose statue auctioned out and raised ca USD 9,500 for the kids of Rusinga Island in the eastern part of Lake Victoria, Western Kenya.

Inspired by friendship with Zimbabwe sculpture artist Lovemore Bonjisi and support she extends to his creations, Dr. Marie Imbrova, an expert on Africa and founding member of the Tengenenge Friends Club in the Czech Republic, donated one of Mr Bonjisi pieces to The Centre Narovinu, the organizer of the auction.

The proceeds from the auction will help repair the dining hall at the community center Island of Hope. This covers construction of a new kitchen to improve the situation with providing food for 400 kids from low-income families ...

Sculptures made of opal, spring stone and dolomite by renowned sculptor Dominic Benhura that are featured in UNICEF’s 2014 calendar reinforce the artist’s passion for exploring children’s issues through art. Benhura said he was honoured to work with the international organisation to tackle issues that are related to children’s lives.

"It is a humbling experience to have my works being featured on such a platform. I think UNICEF used the pictures because the works are inspired by children, which is also one of my favourite subjects," Benhura said.

According to international art collector Marie Imbrova, Benhura is presented in the project as "the artist of the year".

The calendar in itself is a collector’s item as the works featured carry some of Benhura’s masterpieces since he launched his career in the 1990s. Unlike the first generation sculptors, who thrived on spirituality in their creative space, Benhura draws inspiration from living things and life in general....

The Africa in Tower (Afrika Ve Věži) exhibition opened in the Gallery and Cafe Ve Vezi in Melnik, Czech Republic (some 35 km north of Prague) on May 15 and it will run till June 22.

It is a project ideated by Dr. Marie Imbrová who presents six Zimbabwean cratives from her private collection and paintings by Prague-born Radu Tesaro – in the UK, better known as Radka Kirby – inspired by the artist’s long stay in Zambia...
